Today I met with my new doctor to talk about IVF. I was still nervous going in that he would tell me my BMI was too high and that he wouldn't even though he agreed to meet with me. When the nurse was taking my weight (an old school scale) she started trying to weigh me 50lbs less than I am, which was flattering. Thanks nurse for confirming my suspicion that I look smaller than I actually weigh. I'm just a super dense person I've decided (I mean don't get me wrong I am fat but not AS fat as my weight is).

Dr. Mesen explained that because of my weight he cannot put me under for egg retrieval BUT he could still do it by giving me pain meds. Before we officially moved forward he had to make sure my ovaries were lower and easy to access to do retrieval that way. Thankfully, my ovaries finally did something right. The right one was a little high but doable and the left was in the perfect position.

So we went back to his office and he asks what our timeline is. After I said that we're good to go, he immediately jumped into what we'd be doing. Because I'm currently on cycle day 3 we scheduled tests and mock transfer for NEXT WEEK! Beginning next cycle we would start stims and egg retrieval. Then the cycle after we would transfer a frozen embryo. SO, in 2 monthsish time....I could be pregnant!

This is all moving so fast and I'm struggling a little to process but all I want is a baby, I will do anything. WISH ME LUCK EVERYONE!

I’m so glad you were able to find a clinic that would do IVF with a high BMI. I too have a high BMI and will be starting an IVF protocol within the next two months. Did your doctor mention why they couldn’t put you under for the egg retrieval because of the bmi? Mine hasn’t mentioned that yet, but it makes me nervous lol

Replying to

it has something to do with the risk of complications. I had surgery over the summer and was fine under anethstia but it's a rule for in office procedures vs. in a hospital. They used a local for my retrieval which was perfect, it was actually awesome being able to watch it.
